Voter Data Mapping Tool

Carolina Demography developed this tool to support Blueprint NC and NC Counts Coalition partners to use Census Tract level data to support their program development, fundraising, and evaluation efforts. The maps provide demographic, social vulnerability, voter registration, and turnout information for the entire state. If you would like to schedule a training on how to use this tool, don't hesitate to contact Angeline Echeverría at angeline@nccounts.org or Addison Evans at data@blueprintnc.org. For definitions of terms that are used in this tool, which are based on the available Census Bureau 5-Year American Community Survey and NC State Board of Elections Voter Registration Data, click here

This map has three key components or tabs:

  • Social Vulnerability Index (SoVI): This tab is searchable by county or zip code and shows the social vulnerability index score, total population by demographic groups, number of registered voters as of 11/3/2020, and the 11/3/2020 voter turnout rate for individual Census Tracts. The darker the color displayed, the greater social vulnerability in that area.
  • Race & Ethnicity: This tab is searchable by demographic group, county, or zip code and shows the total population, number of households, median household income, and other housing characteristics for individual Census Tracts. The darker the color displayed, the greater the concentration of the selected population is in that area.
  • Voting: This tab is searchable by demographic group, county, or zip code and shows the citizen voting-age population (CVAP), number of registered voters as of 11/3/2020, number of registered voters who voted in the 11/3/2020 election, the percent voter turnout rate for the 11/3/2020 election, the total number of registered voters as of our most recent update of the tool, and the change in the number of registered voters since 8/28/2021 for individual Census Tracts. On this tab, the color display will vary according to the "Measure Values" selected, with three options of display: citizen voting-age population, registered voters as of 11/3/2020, or a number of people who voted on 11/3/2020.

**Please Note: when you select a single Census Tract, you then have the option of seeing that Census Tract on another tab of the tool.
