COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE NEW CITIZENSHIP QUESTION

April 10, 2018

On March 26, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced its decision to include a citizenship question in the 2020 Census. Unfortunately, for the first time since the enactment of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the questionnaire sent to each household in the country is set to include an untested and unnecessary question about U.S. citizenship. This FAQ and fact sheet provides answers to questions about the addition of the citizenship question to the 2020, and also includes a fact sheet on the importance of the 2020 Census to North Carolina.

The information in this fact sheet has been provided by the Funders’ Committee for Civic Participation and NC Counts.
